Tucked
into the mammoth seven-bill, $820 billion omnibus appropriations
legislation (HR 2673) were two measures that have advocates of
workers and worker rights up in arms:
- New
proposed regulation on overtime that means that more
than 8 million workers might
not be paid extra for the overtime hours they work.
- Amish
exemption, allowing children as young as 14 to work in
sawmills and woodworking shops.
Thank you for your efforts to
attempt to stop the Amish exemption and the new overtime
regulations. Unfortunately, the omnibus bill passed Congress and
was signed by President Bush on Jan. 23, 2004.
