| WASHINGTON, DC, May
1998....The National Consumers League is proud to co-sponsor the Global
March Against Child Labor, launched today in Washington, D.C. The six-month march will span
Asia, the Americas, Africa and Europe. Marchers hope to establish a world wide movement to
promote the rights of all children to receive an education, and to be free from work that exploits
them or damages their development.
We believe the march will expose the world's best kept secret -- that millions of children are exploited as cheap labor. But, with the awareness comes responsibility. Governments, industries, companies, and consumers must change the world for working children. We hope the march will ignite the commitment to do it. For more information, to schedule an interview with NCL staff, or to contact NCL's Communications Department on this or any other release, call Holly Anderson, director of communications at (202) 835-3323.
